Might Makes Right

Since sunday we have been playing host to my cousin Matthew who we rarely get to see due to his living outside of rural Ottawa. Matthew is in the naval reserve and is training to be a marine engineer (the guys who keep Canada's ship working) he is also on the naval shooting team for the Ottawa region. In september he starts at the University of New Brunswick in the Military History Studies program. Yesterday Matthew my dad and I went to Peterborough, I drove (huzzah!). We also took my long time friend Devon ("no hip-hop guys"). Devon is a staunch socialist and inflexibly loyal NDP supporter to the point where he cannot accept that anyone with any sense would support any other party let alone the Conservatives or Republicans. Matthew harbours more conservative view.

They were arguing before we even got in the van. For much of the drive I would provoke them into spitting arguments. I enjoyed all of this, my favourite was the one about the Canadian army and the Somolia debacle in 1994.

The Ptbo house is coming along nicely but I need to replace the faded NASCAR wallpaper in my room. Oh yeah we also have a foosball table.

I'm all for playing the Van Helsing drinking game.

Today this afternoon we're going out to the CTV studios for a Blue Rodeo concert for their documentary. It should be fun.

Van Helsiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing

Fuck you Neil, for suggesting that we watch Alien3. Jokes jokes, shin-dig tommorrow sounds great. But seriously let's not watch that PoS.

On the subject of bad movies I recently watched Van Helsing and have come up with the skeleton of a Van Helsing Drinking Game™

Drink if...
Someone yells "Van Helsing"
Van Helsing takes off–or puts on–his hat
A werewolf falls in water
Vampires talk upsidedown
Van Helsing grabs Anna's mouth
A faux lesbian moment occures between Anna and one of the vampettes
Something catches on fire for no reason

I don't know if we should expand it to include things like "something horribly clichéd happens", because that seems kind of quantitative to me. Maybe something on the rediculous number of crossbow bolts shot from that machine-gun xbow? Or maybe a more general, horribly inapropriate technology for the 19th century? Oh well.

And for the "if you thought your life was bad" files, check out the title of this article in the Journal of Forensic Sciences: Autorerotic fatalities with power hydraulics.

Chill Out, Y'zall.

The camping debacle: unfortunate and all, but there's really no point in bitching about it. To those who managed to go, good on yer, hope it was fun. To those of us who didn't get to go, there's always next time. From those of us who didn't get t'go, sorry we missed you guys. There we go. That's the last that needs to be said. Now I'm off to the middle east to solve THEIR problems with my winning brand of chillin'.

In other news, I got a new CD. Fans of german metal will no doubt recognize the band Blind Guardian for their fantasy-based themes and memorable vocals, and this album proves no exception to these trends. The album "Nightfall in Middle Earth" follows the concept of The Simarillion and makes an album out of it. S'good.

What else? I've decided on a halloween costume 2 months in advance this year, giving me plenty of time to plan.

Neil, shindig on wednesday sounds goo(d). I'm in. (besides, I still have a buncha stuff I left at your house)

Yeah, that's it.

Dammit Ben

If you were on a computer you could've at least sent me the login/password so I can get our shit off Cybertarp and put it somewhere else.

I Come Home In Two Weeks.

PS. Neil, fuck you. You had a month to get your shit together, all of you, and you blew it. Meyers, Matt, and Shirin actually did a bit of WORK, here. Shirin got Laura and her van, Matt had the possiblity of his van at least, and maybe Box didn't turn up anything, but he made that effort, even though he was at fucking Borden. What the fuck did the rest of you do?

Fucking classic, Neil. You procrastinated, then tried to make up for it at the last second with a lame shit idea that you ought to have known wouldn't work. I don't know why I'm disappointed, even. I've seen you do this countless times. It's fucking frustrating when I think about it-- that only me, Leo, or Box ever plan anything, cause no-one else seems to have any fucking impetus or accountability. Grow the fuck up, accept some fucking responsibility, and get off your goddamn ass. Did you even ask Maddy if she had any access to a ride? Or were you too busy fucking?

You guys had a month to figure your shit out, and you blew it. Shirin got her shit together and planned and up here she came. Box worked hard to figure out how to get up here-- he called me, we talked about possibilities, so I fucking know. None of the rest of you, so far as I can tell, did anything comparable. I'm just glad Box WAS able to come, after all the work he did. I'm sorry that Matt couldn't. But I'm not sorry for anyone who procrastinated, then wouldn't own up to his own fucking inadequacies.

Eventful day

This morning I woke up to the sound of a doorbell. My neighbour had come to tell me that some guy had hit my family's parked van with his bike. I went outside to look. He'd completely annihalated the rear window using only his head. Turns out he'd had a seizure while riding his bike with no helmet on. Given that this guy had a history of seizures, I kind of wonder why he's still alive if he routinely rides around with no helmet on. He needed stitches but he was fine. So the window is going to cost 300 dollars to fix and my parents are in Maine. Fortunately we have friends who are lending us their garage until we get a new window, which is nice of them.

Later on my brother and I got a phone call from our distraught aunt in Oshawa. My cousin's boyfriend was shot in the face. Four random individuals arbitrarly decided it would be a smart idea to rob him while he was in his car, with my cousin and her sister (who is also a cousin). They demanded that he relinquish his belongings and he refused, then tried to get them to stop screaming at my cousin. Now he's missing a chunk of his jaw, poor chap. He'll likely be fine, but this has been a real bad day for the family. Fortunately, his attackers were stupid and unsubtle, so I doubt it will take long to catch them.

Other than these two events, life's been pretty good. I got a ton of anime from Robert, so now I've been busying myself with writing, Full Metal Alchemist, and a really entertaining anime called Paranoia Agent. Neil, you have to see more FMA, it will beat the shit out of you. I nearly fell out of my chair at the greatness.

Aaron will be coming back to Toronto very shortly. It'll be good to have him back. He called me today and talked about how excited he is about doing the most normal, everyday activities again. Gotta love the army.
